What's Happening?

HFF is rockin' and rollin', that's what's happening!  We've got trailrides, horse shows, fun shows, parties, camps, and camp-outs planned for the year and we want you to join in the fun!

The show season has already started and the GSDHJA schedule is hot!  There will be FIVE East County Horseshow Organization (ECHO) shows this year, the first one coming up on March 27, at Heartland Ranch in Lakeside.  Sweetwater Farms in Bonita is holding a hunter show monthly.  And let's pick a summer multi-day show in Del Mar, just for the fun of it!

And speaking of Del Mar, let's remember the Del Mar Horseshow.  We'll have the usual gang of 40 or so folks joining us at the Grand Prix - Tickets are limited so reserve yours early.

Many HFF riders are moving up in the divisions.  Our stellar Green Rider girls, Emma, Chrystal, and Talia, will be taking the leap to the 2'6" divisions.  Sierra and Oreo have graduated from the Walk/Trot classes and will be taking on the Crossrail riders.  Don't be surprised when Lauren and Sugar jump up to the Green Rider Hunters.

Trailrides?  We've got lots of places to explore this year.  Overnighter in the desert?  Back to the beach!  Let's do a snowy mountain ride in the Lagunas.  We also want to try Hollenbeck Canyon in Jamul and Santa Ysabel Preserves outside of Julian.

Every day with HFF offers new experiences, valuable lessons, and good horsemanship.

New Worming Protocol

At the advice of our East County Large Animal Practice veterinarians, we will no longer be paste worming our horses on a regular quarterly basis.  ECLAP explains, "As a result of an increase in parasite resistance to de-wormers, we now de-worm horses only twice a year, along with fecal egg count tests to make sure they are parasite free."

At our January Vaccination clinic, we collected fecal samples from many of our horses.  We are pleased to announce that there was not a single positive result!  We'll be de-worming and taking more fecal samples in July.

Summer Camps

We will again be holding summer camps for Beginner Riders this year.  The camps are designed to give the students a crash course in basic horsemanship and riding skills, and also offer horse-related games and fun.  To list just a few of the opportunities that can happen during Camp Week,  the kids will give their ponies a bath, go for a trailride, ride bareback, see the vet and farrier at work, and learn how to prepare for a horseshow.  Parents are invited to attend the Friday session, which may include a mini horse show or demonstration by the campers.

The dates for our Summer First Timer Camps are June 20-24, July 11-15, and Aug. 1-5.  The camps run from 8:30-12:30.  The cost is $300 for the week and a $100 deposit will reserve a spot for your child.  Please give us a call or send an email if you have any questions.
